Privacy policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Cargo Moving Inc. (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information when you use the CargO websites, mobile applications, and related services (collectively, the “Services”).
This policy is designed to align with Canadian privacy requirements, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), and applicable provincial private-sector privacy laws where they apply (for example, in Alberta, British Columbia, and Quebec). If you are in Quebec, certain provisions of Quebec’s Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, as modernized (Law 25), may also apply to you.
This document is provided for transparency and operational purposes and does not constitute legal advice. You may wish to consult qualified counsel for your specific situation.
1. Who is responsible for your personal information?
The organization responsible for personal information under this policy is:
Cargo Moving Inc.
Canada
For privacy requests, including access, correction, and account deletion, contact us at privacy@cargomoving.ca.
2. Scope
This policy applies to personal information we collect in connection with the Services, including when you browse our marketing website, create or use a customer or driver account, request or provide deliveries and related logistics services, participate in promotions, or contact support.
3. What we collect
Depending on how you use the Services, we may collect categories of information such as:
- Account and contact data: name, email address, phone number, password or authentication credentials (stored in secure form), profile details, language preferences.
- Service and transaction data: pickup and delivery addresses or locations you provide, order details, photos or descriptions of cargo where applicable, pricing, payment status, ratings, reviews, chat messages exchanged through the platform, and support tickets.
- Driver and verification data (drivers): driver licence and government identification where required for onboarding, vehicle information, insurance details where collected, and results or status of background or screening processes conducted through accredited providers where applicable.
- Location data: approximate or precise location when you enable location permissions for features such as routing, matching, or live tracking, as disclosed in the app.
- Device and technical data: device type, operating system, app version, IP address, diagnostic logs, and identifiers used for security, fraud prevention, and service improvement.
- Payment-related data: payment method tokens or references processed by our payment partners (we do not store full payment card numbers on our servers when card data is handled by the processor).
- Communications: information you send us by email, forms, or in-app messaging.
4. Why we use personal information
We use personal information to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the Services (including matching, dispatch, tracking, customer support, and safety features).
- Create and manage accounts, authenticate users, and enforce our terms.
- Process payments, payouts, refunds, and disputes where applicable.
- Send service-related notices, security alerts, and (where permitted) marketing communications you can opt out of.
- Detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from authorities.
- Analyze aggregated or de-identified usage to improve reliability and user experience.
We rely on appropriate lawful bases under Canadian law, including consent where required, and purposes that a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances.
5. When we share personal information
We may share personal information with:
- Service providers who assist us (for example, hosting, analytics, customer support tools, communications, identity or screening providers, payment processors, and cloud infrastructure), subject to contractual protections.
- Other users to the extent needed to complete a service (for example, sharing necessary trip details between a customer and an assigned driver).
- Professional advisors (such as lawyers or accountants) when necessary.
- Authorities when required or permitted by law, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
- A successor organization in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, as permitted by law.
We do not sell your personal information in the conventional sense of selling lists of personal data to third parties for their independent marketing.
6. International processing
We primarily store and process information in Canada where feasible. Some of our service providers may process data in other countries. In those cases, we take steps that are appropriate in the circumstances to protect personal information, including contractual measures where available.
7. Retention
We retain personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including to meet legal, regulatory, tax, accounting, and insurance requirements, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Retention periods vary depending on the type of information and the nature of the relationship.
8. Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we encourage you to use strong passwords and protect your devices.
9. Your choices and rights (Canada)
Subject to applicable exceptions, you may have the right to:
- Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, subject to legal or contractual restrictions.
- File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) or, where applicable, a provincial privacy regulator.
To exercise these rights, contact privacy@cargomoving.ca. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
10. Account deletion (Apple App Store & Google Play)
We provide a way to delete your account and associated personal information in line with common app store expectations.
CargO customer accounts: You can initiate deletion in the CargO customer mobile application by opening Settings and choosing Delete Account, then confirming. This starts the process of closing your account and deleting or anonymizing personal data associated with it, subject to the retention exceptions below.
CargO driver accounts: If you are a driver and the in-app deletion option is not available in your build, you may request account deletion by emailing privacy@cargomoving.ca from the email address associated with your account. Include your full name and phone number so we can verify your identity.
What happens when your account is deleted: We will delete or irreversibly anonymize personal information tied to your account where no longer required, except where we must retain certain records—for example, transaction and invoicing records for tax and accounting, records needed to resolve disputes or enforce agreements, and information we are required to keep by law. Some residual copies may persist for a limited period in encrypted backups until those backups are rotated.
Timing: We aim to complete account deletion or anonymization within a reasonable period, typically within thirty (30) days of a verified request, unless a longer period is required by law or exceptional technical constraints (in which case we will inform you where appropriate).
Deleting your account may not cancel outstanding payment obligations or remove information that other users reasonably need to document a completed service (for example, a receipt summary), where such retention is permitted by law.
11. Children
The Services are not directed to individuals under the age of majority required to enter into a contract in their province or territory of residence. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without appropriate parental or guardian consent where required. If you believe we have collected information from a minor in error, contact us at privacy@cargomoving.ca.
12. Cookies and similar technologies (website)
Our website may use cookies or similar technologies that are necessary for operation or that help us understand aggregate traffic and performance. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Essential cookies may be required for certain features to function.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the effective date. If changes are material, we will provide additional notice as required by applicable law (for example, through the app or by email).
